Licensing Requirements

The individual must be at least 17 years old and of good moral character. Education equivalent to the completion of the ninth grade is required; however, SDA requires proof of secondary education completion. The prescribed number of program hours must be completed in a licensed school of Cosmetology or apprenticeship program. Candidates must pass an exam prescribed by the Board of Cosmetology and the Department of Licensing Regulation. Instructor candidates must also possess a valid Cosmetology license
